Choosing A Retirement Community
- When you walk through the door for the first time,
is the community odor free?
- Is the receptionist or greeter pleasant and accommodating?
- Are the residents dressed, groomed and clean?
- Are the rooms, hallways and general facilities clean, uncluttered
and well maintained?
- Is the staff friendly with the residents?
Do they know the residents by name?
- Is there a full-time activity director?
- Are there on-going activities? Is there a charge
for activities?
- Are the activities appropriate for the residents in attendance?
- How often are there outings? On average,
how many residents participate?
- Is free transportation provided for doctor visits, shopping
and banking?
- Is there a Registered Nurse on staff?
- Are the staff, nurses, aids and other supportive
staff cheerful and helpful in answering your questions?
- What is the staff to resident ratio?
- Does the community have in-house physician contracts; medical
director, eye, dental, hearing, podiatric and psychiatric?
- Are three meals a day and snacks included with the monthly
rent?
- Are the meals appetizing, nutritious and served on time?
- What utilities are included with the monthly rent?
